Fundus Photography

Colour photographs of the retina to document and monitor eye disease.

Colour fundus photography uses a fundus camera, a specialised low-power microscope with an attached camera, to record images of the interior surface of the eye, including the retina, retinal blood vessels, optic disc and macula.

The images document conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular oedema and retinal detachment, and help monitor changes over time. Fundus photographs are also used to interpret fluorescein angiography.

Your pupils will be dilated before the procedure, giving a wider and clearer view of the back of the eye.
